Dropbox

I’ve been using and loving a service called Dropbox these days. It allows you to set up a folder on your hard drive (either Mac or PC, and Linux I guess) that can be accessed in a web browser by you or anyone you invite to share the folder with.

Say I’m designing a website with a friend and we are going to be taking turns editing the code in text files, but we live in different states. We could email things back and forth over and over, or we could set up a Dropbox folder to share and drop our files in there. Dropbox tells me when my co-worker has updated a file by animating its icon in my menubar (and if you’re running Growl like I am, it can popup a message too), and the new version of the file shows up like magic in our shared folder on my hard drive and on the Dropbox website. It even keeps track of the changes we make to all the files, so if either of us make a mistake at some point, with a few clicks on the site you can revert it back to a previous version if you need to.

Oh, and you can also easily share photos and videos and fun stuff too of course. I have a folder going right now with a few friends that we dump little gems into every once in a while and its super fun. Anyway, join up if it sounds good to you.

Get Dropbox – Its free and easy!
